Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) are often the first medically trained personnel to arrive at the scene of an accident or medical emergency. EMRs have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Many firefighters, law enforcement officers and lifeguards are certified EMRs, and are a vital part of the emergency medical services (EMS) system.
