What It Means to Be Selected as a Student Spotlight

Being selected as the Student Spotlight in an SOE lab is a recognition of more than just clinical skill. It's a reflection of professionalism, dedication, and leadership in a high-pressure learning environment.

It means they have consistently demonstrated mastery of hands-on skills, a commitment to learning, and a strong understanding of protocols and procedures. They come prepared, stay engaged, and take every opportunity to improve not only themselves but also their peers by offering support and fostering a positive team dynamic.

As a Student Spotlight, they have shown composure under pressure, a willingness to receive and apply feedback, and the ability to think critically in simulated emergency situations. Their conduct reflects the values of a future paramedic: compassionate, capable, and committed to excellence. This recognition highlights their growth and sets the standard for what it means to be a confident, competent entry-level clinician.

Noah Ferri

SOE Jackson

JCK-74-PA-U1-O-25
Noah was consistently prepared for lab each day. It was obvious throughout the week that he studied his cardiology and ACLS leading up to the lab week and did not wait until the last minute to cram. He consistently out performed his other classmates with his assessments, leadership ability, clinical judgment, and overall knowledge of the material.

Taylor Kerwin

Taylor is a go getter! She was the first to jump in and perform skills and stayed actively involved throughout the entire week. She maintained a great attitude, supported her classmates, and consistently contributed to the learning environment. Her willingness to participate and positive mindset helped the whole group succeed. She was the first to jump in and do skills. She stayed involved throughout the week.

Vanessa Barrett

SOE San Antonio ACD

SAACD-196-PX-B2-P-26
Vanessa came into day one a bit reserved, underestimating herself. Step by step, as we progressed through each station, each skill, she visibly began gaining confidence. Her knowledge is on point, her skill set blossomed, and her confidence became clear and beamed when completing I.V.s. Vanessa represents herself, her employer, and School of EMS professionally with dignity and pride. I am excited to see Vanessa's continued growth as a Paramedic student and more importantly watching her grow her confidence in herself as a Paramedic clinician.

Crystals dedication to becoming the best provider to her future patients is an inspiration to all. Crystal showed great improvement in her clinical judgment and excelled in her skills in the critical thinking in both the card courses and psychomotor skills labs. Crystal will be an outstanding paramedic for her community. She shows up for her husband and daughters and holds a full time job as a division chief EMT-firefighter, all while finishing this program. She's dedicated to helping others. She is the spotlight student and future paramedic we can all look up to.

Crystal Elliott

SOE Evansville

EVV-85-PA-B1-O-25
Crystal really improved from lab day 1 to lab day 12! Her biggest obstacle was confidence and when it came to the psychomotor exam she really knocked it out of the park! I think she achieved far beyond her confidence level. Excellent skills and command during leads and it reflected in her achievement during the psychomotor.

Remington Wilson

SOE Provo

PROVO-64-PA-U2-O-25
Remington completed Live Week 2 demonstrating exceptional knowledge and clinical understanding. What truly set him apart, though, was his coachability. Every piece of feedback given during scenarios was immediately applied in the next evolution. You could see real-time growth from scenario to scenario — the mark of someone who is serious about mastering the craft. Beyond his strong performance, Remington was a positive force in the classroom. He stepped up to help classmates, remained respectful during critiques, and stayed fully engaged throughout the week. His professionalism and attitude elevated the entire learning environment. And let’s be honest — look at that smile! 😄 He brought great energy to class and was genuinely a joy to have in Live Week 2. Keep pushing, Remington — you’re building something special. The Provo cohort is lucky to have you!

Ciara was really great during her first lab day. She was able to correctly answer every question that was asked. while others stayed silent when asked questions, she chimed in immediately. I was really impressed with her knowledge of things discussed during our lab. She is clearly jumping into the textbook and studying hard.
